2012 Leadville 50 Mile Trail Race Report
I reached all of my goals: 1 finish: 13:04 (I had a secret goal of doing less than 15 minute miles: just short of that: 15:41, I am very pleased!) 2 Get to the half way point before the monsoon did 3 Had fun Once again, the Mountains of Leadville were very kind to me. Thank You Mountain Momma! Today is the 1 week anniversary and I still have all my toe nails! This was the most awesome experience ever. Other than the actual race in Leadville, the Adventures that lead me to a successful race are what I
I Am Ready
Finally. Yesterday I was scared, scared more than I have ever been going into a race. I have a lot of 12 hours under my belt. Just not a 12 hour run. And with Dawn to Dusk being cancelled 2.5 hours into it, not the base I wanted. I have been so sick and tired, literally this week, that in reality, I should have felt like I do today, on Tuesday. Now that's scary. Now I am ready: Espresso Made Banana Muffins Made Ground Turkey Made Date, Coconut, Cashew Rolls Made Magic Potion Made Energy Level: Argh

Pre Race Pneumonia/Crest Trail/ and Goals for Leadville 50 Mile Run
And sometimes, Pre Race pnuemonia is actually: a double eye infection, conjunctivitis that is viral, guessing, that since it's been 5+ days on the meds and it's only partially better. Compounded with Celiac's, and a high altitude run to boot. So the last week has been rough to say the least. The eye thing started about 90% of the way through the Crest Trail run, which was awesome! Post run for 2 days, it felt like I had sand in my eyes, and then, by Friday morning, I knew, I had something going on. Especially since, well,
Leadville 50 Mile Run Training: Aspen Vista: to 12,000 feet
It was 53 when I started; 57 when I finished. Degrees that is, and it felt butt a$$ cold. I didn't want to complain for 2 reasons: 1) it's going to be between 43 and 48 at Leadville Start and 2) it's been so damn hot. Iker's Scared. Scared of the length of the blog post; having 2 last training adventures to blog about. Yesterday was it: The last day. A day that was going to be about 2 miles bigger than I wanted it to be. I needed to get up to 12,000 feet. The
Inflammation and Pain
Do NSAID's; non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, Inhibit healing? Was the question asked: http://www.outsideonline.com/fitness/fitness-coach/Does-Advil-Hurt-Healing-20120629.html The influence of anti-inflammatory medication on exercise-induced myogenic precursor cell responses in humans: http://jap.physiology.org/content/103/2/425.short Pain in the body is an indication that there's swelling around or impingement of a nerve . Pain is more likely to be caused by inflammation and it's a red flag response that tells us that something is wrong in our bodies. The best idea is to always listen to it. As a whole, before deciding to take a pill, we should try at least 3 different
Weekend of June 29th:
Not a ton going on but still some notable: Dave Robison and Mike Ridgely tackling the Smurf Boy as part of the 5 month Rocky Hill Ranch 24 hour solo expedition. Nice Job Boys!! Coming on to a Coach and coming on to an organized training plan takes some adjusting: on my part and on clients parts. It does take a little bit of time for us to work out all the details, where we get everything running like a well oiled locomotive. I want to ensure you that we are off to
Tip for Today: Combating the Heat.
Tip for the Day: To combat these hotter temperatures there's a few things you can do to help. Take a Fuel Belt bottle, or something similar, fill it with water and put it in freezer. You can either put the frozen bottle in your jersey pocket or athletic bra. If you're choosing to wear a Camel Bak or other hydration back pack you can fill 1/3 full of water and freeze. Then, before you ride fill the remainder of the bladder with water. Drinking cold water helps lower body temperature. So if you're running
June 28th 2012: La Luz Trail Run
I love a challenge. La Luz Trail Between 8 and 9 miles, this source says about 8 and with 3,775 ft (1,151 m) of elevation gain and a grade of 12%. That would be 16 miles and 7400 feet of elevation change = more than Leadville 50 Miler. I couldn't really decide, I had some options but yesterday I was at High Desert Bicycles; getting a long needed bicycle adjustment( only riding 1-2 days per week) and getting the youngest monkey's bike ordered. Lucky girl, is getting WSD Mycha with disc brakes. I like going to High
Leadville 50 Mile Run Peak: They Say the 50 Mile Run is Easier than the Marathon
Peak____Complete. One way is to do a 50k as part of the training. That is what I thought would be the best way for me to peel the banana going into it, but what I learned, and have known for some time, training and building is solely dependent on how your body adapts to the stimulus. That's why having a coach, someone who is knowledgeable and can tweak your text book example, is imperative and truly balancing training for optimal performance. Blocks of training can be equally effective for reaching long peaks. On
