What Would you Rather Have a Nice Butt

Or nice nails?

Seriously.

If I were given an hour to

a) Exercise

b) Get My Nails Done

I would have to go with a.  every time.

And from a health perspective; there’s a huge chance that if you take care of your health, your nails will be one of the many rewards of good health.

When we’re healthy, our nails are healthy.

I have been a very busy beaver:

Yesterday was an Epic Ride.

There wasn’t any speed involved with it.  I have the cold from hell.  It’s what the little monkey had last week.  I haven’t had the fever; so I just keep plugging away.  I’m not the type to let a 70 degree day keep me from doing something like riding up the mountain.  I knew I would have a little bit of a cold set back.  I also was weighing the rest of the next week.

I just had to go with it.

5100 feet of climbing.  Not a bad day in the saddle.

Looked dry; headed in until: snow, ice, shade...

Lunch Break at the Top of Sandia Crest: Cheeseburger and Espresso!!

Lunch Break at the Top of Sandia Crest: Cheeseburger and Espresso!!

20 Miles up hill.  I was good until 2:35.  I fell apart then, all I could think about was getting to the top, and eating my packed cheeseburger and drinking my espresso with lots of sugar.

Me and My Rudys…and chipmunk cheeks..

It was very, very, tasty.

There is something about that hill climb that is a ball breaker.  The 1st part is the sign at the bottom of the hill:

Ski Hill               6 miles

Sandia Crest    14 miles

I have ridden the Crest a few times, and I am not sure I have ever thought about this sign before.

8 miles from the Ski Hill to the Crest.  Wow!!

I did NOT know that.

But I must have.

Somewhere in my brain of knowledge.

Off I go.

When I call a ride “An Adventure”  that means that I don’t have a set in stone route, some things may happen, and I am going to check some stuff out.

The 1st thing I did was get really excited at Doc Long; it was all dry and warm, so I went in.  I started going up, Not more than a couple of .10’s of a mile; shade, ice snow, mud = No Thank You.

So up I go on the road.

I get to the Ski Hill.  Head down 165 towards Placitas, same thing, want to check it out, see what kind of shape it is in.  Get down about .2 miles, snow and ice.  No thank you.

Round the bend; Towers.

That’s the ball breaker.

Because at that point I thought, I have 8 miles.

9 mile…10k…Ellis…then, I get to the HFS stage.

I totally broke down mentally, I wanted to break down physically.  But no…I have to make it to the top.

3:15 for 20 miles.  This is very slow.  I have done it on my road bike, in lightening speed. From the Triangle, in about 1:11 or 1:15; never from Tijeras.  It’s only a couple of extra miles.

It’s an interesting phenomena  the mental and physical game.

So just as the mind tries to negate you, tries to take over and tell you you’re not good enough: Remember it’s just like the ride or the race;

Just tell your mind; to SHUT UP!
