The Week in Review

Number 1:

I need to stop drinking so much coffee.

This never happened in Bartonville, at least near the end.  It’s almost 11 and I am still cranking.  For those of you who know me, really know me, you know this is nearly impossible.  The last 2 days I haven’t needed my afternoon cup of joe, habits are hard to break, I’ve had it anyways.  I am such a ‘rule breaker’.  It’s going to hurt me unless, I just say, “adios” or switch to green tea or decaf.

Coffee is 2 things to me:

1) comfort food

2) ergogenic aid

So anyways, here I am up and at ’em.

Today was a great day, It was My Ol’ Man and mine anniversary.

12 years.  That’s right 12 years.

That is amazing, really.

My quote from today came from Center of Spiritual Living:

“Imagine a world that’s good for everyone.”

And just how some stuff is good for some, some of it is not good for me.  And so, because of this right now, we have a few extra hurdles we need to jump to get to the next level.

It’s really good when you can have warm fuzzy feelings about your husband everyday.

I ran around the park as fast as I could.  It took me 12:44. I have no idea how far it was.  When I got home, My oldest Monkey asked me if I was OK.  I was, but that was hard.  Then, My Oldest Monkey said something like this, “I thought you were going to run for 30 minutes”.

My response, “I would not have been able to hold that pace for 30 minutes.

OK, you know, I just can’t help myself so,  of course, I mapped it on www.mapmyrun.com

My run around the park is 1.65 miles and here are my stats.

I feel confident that I could have maintained that pace for at least a total of 2 miles…

Impressive really, for me, to run a sub 8 minute mile with a 2% grade.  Not even be close to barfing.  Not having water would have been a situation for another mile.

I actually feel better knowing what my pace was because I really haven’t had too much of an idea.

The reason I am impressed is yesterday my training partners:

and I went up to Sandia Ski Hill for Intervals.  I have one more high altitude set of intervals to do, I will do them at over 10,000 feet, either Tuesday or Wednesday.

This interval session was 1:20 I got in around 15 intervals.  I did a couple of 5 minute TEMPO surges too.

Now the way Sandia Ski Area works, is very cool.  We did not go far, because of the heat and the dogs.  But the King of the Mountain Trail switch backs across the ski area.

So we would run up the trail to the shade, otherwise known as “camp”.  Then, the dogs and my training partners would chill in the shade and hydrate while I headed straight up the ski hill until I was making funny noises and not running anymore,

at which point I would run straight down the ski hill until King of the Mountain Trail and then, TEMPO run down to “camp”.  And then, we would go to the next camp, etc. etc. etc.

Then, we went down to base camp.  The dogs were dying and I gave my training partners 5 bucks for some soft drinks, ice cream and candy bars and I went for a few more intervals.  Until I did some tempo runs and realized, I was done.

The best I can tell you is that the base of the ski area is at roughly 8600 feet.

Then, I was craving brisket.  Let me tell you something, No Gluten BBQ is IMPOSSIBLE to find.  I haven’t had BBQ at a restaurant in 10 to 15 years.  There is the place, The Cube.  Mmm, this Momma had brisket!

This is the most wildest place.  There was this burger place I was wanting to try because 1 x/month I like a big greasy burger, 5 Stars Burgers.  Rated #1 in New Mexico by USA Today (which I didn’t know til we went there).  They have gluten free buns ( I wouldn’t eat one, but the monkeys sure did enjoy them.  The other really wild thing was they actually had one Gluten Free Beer.  Which is one more than any other place I have ever been.

So even though I didn’t want a beer, I had to order one, and drink it, just because I could.  Usually that’s not an option for me.

Cool, Way Cool!

K, now I am finally beginning to get tired.

Friday I swam with Master’s at what will be the Monkey’s school, in the event that the house doesn’t sell before the school year.  Guess what?!?!  Gigantic Pool, 2 Pools actually, one of them with high dives, 18 feet deep:

SALT WATER!!

My workout was good.  I hadn’t swam in about a month.  I cranked out a really slow, pathetic, 2200.  I have to say, that is the first time I have ever swam in a Salt Water lap pool.  I have been in salt water pools before…

LOVE IT!!

Going tomorrow.

I wanna ride my bike for an hour or so tomorrow, that’s the 2nd time this week I have said that….

Last time, I bailed.  When you can’t go for an hour ride until it’s 100 degrees, when in the morning it’s like 60-70, it’s rough.

Smoke rolled in from one of the fires tonight.  I may be out of a bike ride tomorrow, I am committed to the rollers.

The monkeys have soccer camp beginning at 9 so at least I can go early this week.

Oh yea, and get my ass up to 10,200 feet for some intervals.

I don’t think there was much else I was going to tell you tonight.

I forgot to mention one of my key workouts. My 10 to 12 mile run.  That I had to wait until it was HOT to do.  I mean HOT.  I dropped the monkeys off at 12:30 for variety sports camp and started running laps around the Academy.  I was going through 18 ounces every 30 minutes, guzzling at the car in between laps.  Went out for a 3rd lap and realized, this lap was going to have to be a shorter lap.  Good thing too, I was a little dazed and confused when I was finishing up, oh and I got a little sunburn on my shoulders.  Total time 1:40.  No idea how far I went.  I know the 2 laps were…let’s see what I can figure out:

The best I can figure is around 10.5 miles.  I have it logged at 10.2, the last lap I ran on the trail on the inside of the school.  I think, I may have under estimated that part.

Sub 10 minute miles on a 10.5 mile run, was it 2 or 3  days after a 21 mile run…

The day after a tempo 1 hour ride…

It was HOT and in the end I was becoming sick with heat.  It was slow…pretty slow….it was all I could do on that day.

I’ll take it!

Now I have got to take some sleep…I think the sheep are at the end…

One more thing.  I found a foot race I want to do with my friend Kathy:

http://www.leadvilleboomdays.com/display.ihtml?id=102&step=2

I wouldn’t have my heart set on Leadville, since this course, I’m running o Saturday: Mosquito Pass.  They also have them in Buena Vista and other mining Colorado Towns.

I love Burros, and I think, I love running….

It sounds like such a crazy adventure!
