The Balance of Recovery
Recovery is the most important workout on your schedule. There's the perfect amount of recovery for everyone. As we get older our bodies need a little more recovery than when we were younger. Being in tune with these changes is an important element of what I do. Too much recovery and there will be changes in the mitochondria that indicates a loss of fitness. Too little recovery and the body doesn't have time to re-build after all the hard work. In other words, it won't get stronger from the training
The easiest way to get faster:
Drills: Whether it's on the bike, in the pool or your feet hitting the ground, doing drills is the best way to get faster without having to work hard. On the bike, do one legged drills, find the dead spots of your pedal stroke, and then take the time to train them, practice balance, riding different lines, etc. In the pool, do one arm finger drags, reach and rolls, catch up drills, just to name a few. On your runs, count your foot strikes, run barefoot, do track workouts. For ideas on getting faster through
2.5 days of sugar and GF Flour
I've been binging on sugar and GF flour for 2.5 days now. I can hardly move, I have so much inflammation in my joints and muscles I'm so stiff I can hardly stand it. I used to eat this way all the time, never felt a thing, doesn't mean the inflammation wasn't there, I was just less aware of the outcome of eating it. Gotta get off the sauce!
You’re @ the principals office, sorry Mommy was having too much fun on her SS at Northshore
The Excrutiation Exam was on Saturday. It was so cold, colder than I have ever camped before; sub 30 degrees. It didn't phase me too much, I had all my cold weather Minnesota gear. It took a lot of clothes but I was pretty comfortable. I wasn't feeling all that great going into it. I had the week off when we were in Florida. When I came back on the bike, I felt like I had lost quite a bit of fitness and only had a few days to get
In the Closet
Merry Christmas, Happy Winter Solctice, and all that comes along with the season. I've been gone. At first, I was busy trying to get my website launched, and then I was busy in Fort Myers and Sanibel Island, Florida; visiting the monkeys Great Grandma and collecting shells, and beach running. I didn't get what I needed into my site in time, will do after this, and I had a fabulous time with the family in Florida. I'm sitting here sipping coffee, and mentally making the list that keeps getting longer and
What I’m Up To: Miracles Can Happen
Miracles can happen at any moment, when we least expect it. It's important just to be open to them and they will happen, and the best part is you'll be more aware and you'll experience more and more miracles. Sunday headed out for my 6 hour tempo ride I'm headed over to that other gym to meet up with a group and low and behold there's a white male deer. He must have had 8 points on his antlers. It was amazing. I apologize to any body who came to that

What I’m Up To, Fastenal Butt Slapping Edition
As always the week of the annual Fastenal Butt Slapping Convention is long, this week was extraordinarily long. And I didn't even have my annual party. It started off last Thursday with the cancelation of Camp Eagle. I gotta say that that really bummed me out. It's not my favorite place to ride, because it's scary hard, once I'm prepared for something, I don't like to have many changes to it. I was petrified about the drive down there in the freezing rain in many areas of BFE. I knew
