News and Tips

In my training. I have made plenty of  mistakes in my life, with very few, if any regrets :) Until last week, and I wish I could say it was a simple mistake. I was going along in my happy little life, transitioning from Dawn to Dusk, into Alcatraz Swim: running here, biking there. Monday I thought, "I should see where I am in my training" Keep in mind, I generally check every week, where I should be. I saw my long run should be at 2:45 2:45 That's a long shot off of 1:00 or 70 minutes. Holy Burrito Bat

Some people don't like Mondays, I'm guessing because they don't like Mondays, they're Mondays meet them with the same energy they meet Mondays. Positive Energy brings Positive Things. Words to act by. That's why it's important to be careful for what you ask for:  the minute you think a thought, you set that thought into motion. Weeks are flying by, not quite out of control. Comfortable Chaos. :) Last Monday I spent 30 minutes in <65 degree water temperature.   A good solid 30 minutes.  I was toast for 1.5 days.  Had a nice tempo 50 mile ride,

My favorite food for racing, especially the Big Races,  is a homemade Date/Cashew/Coconut Roll with a traces of Olive Oil and Honey I prefer to make my own for racing because Lara Bar can be 'dry' during hard workout efforts. Here are the simple directions: 1) it's easier if you can buy the dates already pitted.  If they are unavailable you will need to take the pits out by cutting them open, and then, dice the dates     2) I use raw cashews, you can subsitute almonds, chop the nuts.  I use either a meat mallet, or  a

My Birthday next year, I'm celebrating a whole week! 2 shopping trips, going out to dinner, 1 huge birthday party with my friends, 1 sleepover with my best friend. I'm not going to cook dinner or do dishes for a whole week. Why is it only our children get 'week' long celebrations? I'm in! So put it in your calender

It's been long on my bucket list: Dawn to Dusk. Alpine 12 hour on SS. Man, was I ready!!  I was so ready, besides now knowing I need 2 hours to primp myself in the morning, I know how to do this, and the worse the weather, the better I'll do. 25 degrees with 30 mile per hour winds: Chance of Snow and Rain; NO problem! As everyone whizzed by me at the start, as I was putting on my gloves after taking my arm warmers and vest off, to save for later in the day.

April Fool's. I knew it was snowing for our buddy Rico, but it made me sad, because his nick name was 'snow otter'.  He used to burrow under the snow until his face was white with snow.  So cute. I had a ride schedule 4-5 hours.  I couldn't decide between riding up the crest on my new Scott Foil 2012 Team Issue OR taking the Mountain Bike out for a spin. Well, snow, well, 1 hour run.  So I loaded up Mojo and Molly and away we went.  Up to Pino Canyon. Wow, the

Tap Your Head Drill This is a drill for freestyle that we really like at the moment and for a couple of different reasons: It lets you know where your head is for posture in the water. It gives you and indication of where your hand is to prevent over reaching (reaching in front of the head) It promotes rotation. How to do it: While swimming freestyle, stop in mid-recovery and lightly touch the crown of your head, then slip the hand into the water in front of the shoulder in a kind of catch-up fashion,

Selenium and Iodine Zoe Nance www.zoefitness.com In recent years there seems to be a rise in Thyroid related diseases.  I have been researching the mechanisms of nutritional support and the possible interaction of Iodine and Selenium on the observed increases in thyroid related diseases. The general functions of the thyroid gland are to control how quickly the body uses energy, to make proteins, and to control how sensitive the body should be to other hormones. The thyroid gland participates in these processes by producing thyroid hormones, the principal hormones being triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine(T4). These hormones regulate the rate
