Transition Times in Triathlons
Transition for Triathlons;
Making transition times faster can really make a difference when it comes to your overall placement in a Triathlon.
Here are some of my secrets;
I like to get to transition set up with plenty of time. I actually go through transition from coming in from the swim to exiting on the run. I walk through it, visualize it and look for all the cues of where my transition spot is. I go through it several times before heading to the swim.
- don’t dry off
- don’t wear gloves or socks; train this especially
the no sock part on the run and bike - put powder in both bike and run shoes and a lot
of it, I use a non-talc baby powder - don’t tie your shoes, rather have them set up
with double knots that you can slip your foot
easily. Make sure you train this running - if it’s a wet suit swim lots of lube on you to
get your suit off and begin taking it off the
second you stand up in the water. I run with
my goggles and cap in hand with my suit off
above the waist - take your goggles and cap off right away while
your running to transition, run fast! - don’t use a shoe that has anything but velcro
closures for the bike - have shoes first in line to put on/run behind bike
- when it comes to transition, less is more.
run fast, remember you visualized the exit before you started
