I May Not Be the Fastest
The slowest, having the most fun, or most adventurous. I like to be a balance of all of these things. I am happy. I am happy you are here to learn about my experiences. Thank you.
It’s been an amazing year. An amazing run, an amazing swim, and an amazing bike. An unbelievable year for Zoefitness. And for that, for you, I am so grateful. Thank you.
September 2019
Xterra Pan AM/National Championships: Ogden, Utah
This particular trip was AMAZING compared to 2018! It was not a Ninja Trip, the Air Quality was better than Bijjing, I did not have 4 hours of detours because of fire, and I felt like I was coming back to a familiar place.
I arrived with plenty of time to Pre-Ride the bike course. The course was in absolutely great condition. I would like to take moment, and express my gratitude for the work that was done to the trail. Thank you. The entire middle of the course, had been re-routed, smoothed out, and made to flow better!
The Ogden Mechanical had me off the bike 4 times to make sure I wasn’t going to die, or come off the ‘mountain’ in a copter. Each time I stopped, I checked my bottom bracket, wheels, and axles. I am not going to lie, is disappointing: the bike was fine for my pre-ride, and when I did my pre-race accelerations. The disappointing part, it came out of transition this way.
I did not check my cranks. I learned, I won!!
I had a solid run. I am very pleased with my Overall Performance. I got 4th in my AG.
October 2019:
Xterra World Championships: Maui
A little Pre-Race “Pneumonia”, Sea Level, Jet Lag, Heat and Humidity; what could possibly go wrong??
I felt great, everything was good. This being my 50th Birthday Present to myself we took advantage of being in Maui, and got there in plenty of time to Preview the course.
I was so happy for the rain, the cooler temperatures, and the lack of sunshine was a blessing!
It was one of the best days I could ask for. For Maui, that part of the island, I couldn’t have had better conditions! In lieu of a mechanical that took me off the bike for 2 minutes, it was solid. Solid Swim, 2nd out of the water, Solid Bike, went as hard as I could, and didn’t break my teeth. Solid run, albeit it felt like my skin was on fire at least 4 times during the run, the memories of Winona, MN and -30 degrees was enough of a distraction, it didn’t slow me down. The irony of that, is that Gatorade towel I am holding: Made in Winona, by my friends company. 🙂
Before we left for the trip, I had told Tim that we may have to go back for my 100th. We both decided that we would go back for my 75th. What a great way to celebrate another trip around the sun!
I am so happy to be home. I am so happy to be alive. We had talked about racing Palo Duro Canyon Marathon Mountain Bike Race a couple of days ago, two weeks post Maui. I hadn’t gotten in more than 2 rides, neither exceeding 15 miles. My quad was shredded for over a week, the Jet Lag me had me trashed for a week, and of course, I brought home the contagion.
I am glad that I didn’t go, we lost one of our own out there. And it’s hitting really close to home. Death is imminent, the statistic is 1 and 10,000 during exercise, and can happen at any time. It’s important to live life, and love what you do. Maybe you don’t like what yo do, you can love it, and you can put your Love, Dreams, and Hopes to the Universe. With Love in the Dream, it Will come True.
2020 is already mapped out. Please keep checking back to see what is on my upcoming adventure plate. I may not be the fastest, the slowest, having the most fun, or the most adventurous. It is all a part of me.
We start this Friday 11.15.209:
