First long run at altitude
In New Mexico with my sister, love my sister, but no match for my husband and girls…no offense Autumn.
So I bit off my first long run at altitude.
It’s not something I would recommend for my athletes, I train at altitude all the time, however, I knew it would be painful.
It’s moderate altitude, 6000 feet.
I ran 14 miles. 4 laps around Albuquerque Academy. That’s where our little monkey will go to school if we don’t sell our house quick. Each lap is 3.5 miles.
Each lap was under 10 minute miles. The first 2 were one direction. The other last 2 I switched directions. Those were most painful. Running up hill into wind was interesting, painful.
There are 2 directions to run in ABQ, up hill and down hill and my body just isnt’ used to that. I feel OK today. I was stiff this morning, I couldn’t tip toe around the Town Home. I was stealth as a jack hammer, as Ken would say. Poor Autumn, she’s been busy playing the rock star while we’re here and I’m hobbling around at 5 in the morning trying to be quiet.
I rode bikes for 1.5 hours today. I was on my Scott, Autumn on my road bike, it was a good match. We rode up hill and then, down hill. That’s common for around these places.
I’m getting all healed up, my brain is awesome, my skin is recovering, my intestines are happy…no headaches, no nausea, no confusion, and I am sharp as a tack.
Going home to paint and oh, nummy num, New Mexican food tonight. We’ve been eating at home every meal, I can’t wait for green chiles.
