9 Hours in 3 days
And I am more than toast.
TH was ‘in the saddle for 4 hours’. I only wanted 3 but the powers to be decided to test me. It was probably only 3.5 hours of riding, maybe closer to 3. I was out there longer than I wanted to be, way longer. I did end up catching the tail of a ride, the “Reaper”. I sprinted about 150 yards to get on, held on, then, they bored me by going to slow, then, I sprinted up front, pulled, and blew up, it was fun! Can’t wait to do it again on Tuesday!
Friday was another big day: 4:10 hike. 2500 feet in 4 miles, Maybe 5, 2 different sources say 2 different things. Then, 30 minutes along the Crest Trail.
Food:
Banana
Raisins
1.5 ounces of finely cut NY Strip
1/4 c yams
I began experiencing a headache. Going from 5000 to 9500 feet can do that to you. I did have 3 Clif bloks: Black Cherry with caffeine. Caffeine can aid in the aptitude of altitude. It helped immensely, no headache after that. Wish I would have had straight espresso. That Brown Rice Syrup, it’s nice to have around, but it’s rough to the system, shock. It took me 2 hours to get up. That’s a long time. I will definitely have to work on that.
Saturday went to Cochiti, the website says the water is estimated at 59 degrees. It seemed hotter than that. By the end I was down to one swim cap, I was overheating in my neoprene. I was a little funny getting out of the water the last time. I got my hour in. It was nice and felt good.
I caught a fishing lure, that was pretty painful, and hopefully, I won’t get an infection.
I will say, it scared the hell out of me.
I will also say, there was a swim clinic out there. I think, I can host a better one. I will try.
I will also give a word advice when it comes to open water swimming.
When you’re alone,
do NOT swim from shore to the middle of the lake, period. Swim in the “swimming area” or swim in a relatively safe cove along the shore. Watch out for Water Snakes! That’s another great reason not to swim alone, unless you are certain there are no poisonous water snakes in your area.
Catching the fishing lure should be proof enough, but you can catch boats, large sticks, be under prepared to handle the stress; both physiologically and psychological.
Today had a nice walk with the dogs, did my dynamic exercises and some ‘strides’ or sprints.
