What I’m Up To, Fastenal Butt Slapping Edition
As always the week of the annual Fastenal Butt Slapping Convention is long, this week was extraordinarily long. And I didn’t even have my annual party. It started off last Thursday with the cancelation of Camp Eagle. I gotta say that that really bummed me out. It’s not my favorite place to ride, because it’s scary hard, once I’m prepared for something, I don’t like to have many changes to it. I was petrified about the drive down there in the freezing rain in many areas of BFE. I knew I could handle the actual race, no matter what it brought because of my MN experience. It would have actually been my advantage. I guess, that is why I was so disappointed.
I did get to stay home and that was awesome. With Camp Eagle canceled so was my taper which lead me to some great workouts. Masters’ on Friday, an awesome trail run with Terra Firma on Saturday and an awesome 5 hours of Isle de Bois on Sunday. Saturday was a ton of fun, I just set out to hold the pace and everything was good, I really haven’t been running much, so I wasn’t sure what was in the tank. I was definitely breathing hard on the back end trails of North Shore, that place is hard, hilly! I love it. I haven’t run more than 30 minutes off road for months so I thought I may drop off. I could have kept going, with the long bike the next day, I wasn’t planning on doing the full 90 minutes. I’m not an idiot. Someone had to drop off because of blisters so I just decided to hang back and walk jog the rest of it, for a total time of an hour and 10 minutes of running…and then some with the walk/jogs.
I was sore on Sunday, the legs didn’t feel like they had much power in them. It was cold, but never too cold in the woods of IDB, I love that place for that! First lap went well, second lap headed into the trees and it started to hurt while I was breathing. deep breating. I was alarmed but didn’t want to stop. Headed off the trail, road the jeep road, still pain headed to the road and back to the car for a warm jersey and some lunch. Headed in for a second slower lap, because it still hurt to breath met up with Kathy and rode the rest kind of slow. Third lap, I begged Kathy to ride with me, it had gotten colder and begun to rain, still warm in the trees was faster, the legs were the deciding factor like the first lap, not the lungs. All in all a good day in the saddle.
Later Sunday night the lungs started to hurt again, all night and Monday, worked at Larry North and then went to see the DR. Xray fine, Po2 fine, lung function fine. Had the epiphany to go to the chiro had an adjustment and had acupuncture done for the lungs and stomach and have been dealing with the demon ever since.
It’s been a trip, to say the least. I have been on and off fatigue. I have been binging a little bit on GF cookies and cupcakes this week. Today am tired from gluten, I’m sure. I should take my magic probiotics.
I was supposed to work this morning. Things change in an instant in my field. So here I am. Trying to decide what to do, swim, ride, meeting at noon, what a bummer that is. Noon on a friday that became a day off…major bummer. I think, I feel a cold coming off, cough, cough…LOL. At any rate, I’ll head to the trail. Don’t feel like anything tough. I’ll hit Horseshoe I think, it’s close to work and won’t require me to think too much. I’ll like that.
I’ve got to hit Bikes Plus and get my tires switched for my next race.
I could just take a nap…
Remember, I’m working a tons on my new website so I’m not here keeping up with blogs and tips as much.
