I tested some new pool toys today.  I think, anyone who says NOT to use pool toys while swimming is missing a lot from their workouts.  Number 1, nothing beats doing a strength workout after a hard bike or run with a pull buoy.  And there’s so much we can learn by initiating pool toys into our workouts, they can teach us so much about what we are doing right, or wrong.

I finally got some new fins.  I had the old TYR split fins, they finally died on me.  It wasn’t a happy day for me, and I have been procrastinating get new ones (due to the little monkeys delay in ordering their suits), that was a good thing, I have been using my Zoomers for some time now.  Those are hard too, but a different kind of hard, stiff, heavy, extra work.

Monday my new TYR Crossblades arrived.

Well, I hate them.

They forced me into more plantar flexion and made me rotate my hips more to get across the pool.

Oh, wait, that’s a good thing.  That’s the way I am supposed to be kicking.

Yea, it was hard, it was different;  I can tell already what kind of difference they are going to make for my kick form.

They are AWESOME!

I also, got some new paddles: Finis Agility paddles.

“The ergonomically advanced design of the Agility Paddles helps teach swimmers the correct palm positive hand position”

I had tested these before with my Master’s Coach at the Academy.  They are awesome, so I could not wait to get a pair for my tool kit.

I had a great swim.  It’s a great workout, I know you will enjoy it.  If you’re not swimming your 100’s on 1:30 with fins, just give yourself 10 to 15 seconds RI.

Getting faster comes with working on your swimming efficiency, and the drills will get you there, in combination with the yards.
