Sunday July 18th; There’s always good News
Sitting in a hotel in ABQ. Love this place. Going to look at houses at 10, condos…I don’t need any more coffee, I’m going to have more coffee. So anybody who knows me, knows exactly where this is going from here, EVERY WHERE. LOL.
Here’s the good news, watch to video, it’s funny and cute, and invest your money.

Got to Santa Fe on Thursday night. Out of it, but here. My friend Kimmie was here. We st up camp, stayed up, talked, I had to, of course, find out if they were doing any gas drilling near ABQ, I know exactly where it is, I got my infamous gas headache when we drove my the area North East of town. In the sticks.
I had convinced my friend Kimmie to do our best to do 2 hill climbs up Alta Vista. We’ve been doing this climb for 3 years, it’s time we up the anty. You know what I mean, it’s all about getting faster, stronger and becoming a better person. I get the AM shift, while she hangs with the girls, and gets jacked up on coffee, we love our coffee. I head up. Not even close to the speed I did last year. Not surprising, I have a broken jaw. Last year, I was doing 6 hour rides, like it was morning coffee. And my biggest ride post jaw break is 3.5. I told Kimmie, I’ll be back in 3 hours. And up I go. I get above treeline, to the fence and the chair lift. And I have to turn around. I am really slow, because I am texting, stopping for a few seconds here and there, but I feel like I have some power. I’m not in granny, granny, andother than taking a breather, there’s nothing steep enough to make me stop. So I turn around and down I go.
I’m feeling pretty confident, and I’m surprised, because I really like my brakes, post jaw break. And then I hear it, the loose free wheel. I know that’s what it is because it happened during the Marathon Race Series. So I find some service to call Bike Plus. Is Justin there, Is Adam there, “I’m at 12000 feet, I have 9 miles to descend and my free wheel is loose, can I rip down this mountain with a broken jaw?” “I would take it easy, exercising some caution”. DAMN!
So down I rode, with my brakes on pedaling. How retarded is that? More work than going down without pedaling but nothing for my confidence. I had make a mistake and not letting Kimmie to bail me out 3:15 into it, so I am shit out of luck, and decide I’m going to ask for a ride to camp. It’s still another 5 miles of fast, not so forgiving asphalt. So a couple is getting into their car. “Are you guys going down? My bike is broken, can you give me a ride?” The answer is yes, I jump in, and I am riding with two of the nicest, well speaking Mexican Nationals; the dude is from Mexico City, and the girl is from Chihuahua. There seems to be some cultural bigotry going on in our country about Mexican Nationals, and FEAR, and the Drug Cartel. I think, it’s ridiculous. I know that there is a lot of violence involved with the drug cartel. I think, if we legalized it we wouldn’t have a Mexican Drug Cartel. And if there wasn’t a Mexican Drug Cartel, there wouldn’t be violence. And I want to thank Fox News for really driving the point home about Mexican Nationals.
I have a point I want to make. These two were very well educated, spoke non broken English, followed my rambling, yes, my rambling, and they were joking with me how they felt they wanted to learn better English. And they gave me a ride down the mountain.
My point is, I got a ride down the mountain from two Mexican Nationals, that know better English, then the Hispanics of our country. And we are catering to them, and changing our culture to the Spanish speaking culture. I’m not saying all Hispanics, I don’t want that to be construed the wrong way. But here we were having a conversation in a car, and I am speaking better to them, then the lawn services and the cleaning services of Texas. That’s just plain embarrassing to that group of people. The people who choose not to learn conversational English when they want to live in America.
OK done with that. See my point?
I got 2:22 of a hill climb in, 3 hours total ride time, and 20 miles in. It was awesome. Kimmie, unfortunately did not get as lucky, she got in a little less climb than me because lightening hit a tree right near her. I would have peed my pants, on that one.
Ken came in, and immediately got on his bike. That’s the nice thing about camping, you don’t have anything to do. I was thinking about running on Saturday, but I couldn’t walk without huffing and puffing. Ken went out early with his co worker and a Club Member of Zoe Fitness. This gave me time to get my bike fixed. Found an awesome bike shop, thanks for a chase I did of these roadies to ask. NM Bike and Sport. Pedro, the man, hooked me up. I learned, that Mavic makes an special lube for free wheels. That was not on my bike. I also learned, that my rubber seal was on backwards. So when Ken got back, the clouds were coming in, so I drove to Alta Vista, the dirt climb was more important and the car being there, will enable me to ride up longer. So I hit the dirt, I went up 30 minutes and down 6. I had an episode of tachycardia, it’s been a long time. My Magnesium is low, and I am done for the day. I wanted to head back up, I wanted to do a run, that feeling, lower legs sweating, insatiable feeling, light headed. I know, just to take what I had and go home.
Since we’re done for the day, how about heading to ABQ and camping in a hotel room, and here I am.
Some really good training in today, I’m heading to the foot hills for some running. Can’t wait. I’m sure I’ll be tired tomorrow.
Pedro did show me the Specialized S-works, carbon 29’er frame with a Reba fork…hmm, tasty.
