Sandia Crest: 8.6.10 14 miles straight up, RPE of 5.
Never road my road bike up a mountain before, it’s something I want to get better at. I called Justin @ Bikes Plus Flower Mound he recommended a 28 cog in the back. So off to Coppell I went to get that baby put on before my big adventure. I have ridden up many mountains in my day. Never on a skinny tire.
It was easy. I didn’t have any trouble at all. We went 14 miles straight up to 10,800 feet. Not too high, but that’s as high as it gets around these parts. I was glad I had that 28 on there, I used it, a lot. I also used the 2 down from there. So, I’m pleased as pie and look forward to more mountain training on my road bike, when applicable. I had to pull myself away from my passion, fat tire, because I have always wanted to to Tour De Gila, since I lived here in NM. Also, I have wanted to do Fort Davis Hammerfest for 5 years. Can’t get better at something unless you do it.
Tomorrow I ‘m doing a 9 mile TT. I don’t care if I don’t have any legs. I rode 19 miles total up hill, and 38 or so, I’ll call it 40 total. Round up, that’s my program.
The total hill climb time to beat next time is 1:45. I was pacing myself, I had to stop 2-3 times for Kimmie to stretch. I think, I can do it faster, but my legs were getting tired.
Oh and yeah, I did the whole thing IN the saddle.
