Nutrition Tip for Better Fat Utilization

Nutrition is a key element in every athletes’ program and is the basis for their success. Our bodies, similar to our automobiles, require clean fuels, energy that is going to enable our bodies to perform at the highest levels possible.

Improving our bodies ability to utilize fat at higher exercise intensities is referred to as ’shifting our metabolic curve’ to the right. A great way of shifting our metabolic curve to the right is by training with low levels of carbohydrates for fuel. Don’t take this over board by completely abstaining from carbohydrates as a fuel. There are good types of carbohydrates to use during training and racing. To put simply, train the body to perform on low levels of simple carbohydrates and the body will adapt by learning how to utilize more fat as an energy source.
