My Biggest Competition

Is always myself.

Leadvile LoveMy goal for Leadville, 10:40.

I want to take an hour off of my time from 2008.  It’s a hefty goal, but I think, it’s doable.

But you never, ever know, what will happen on race day!  I won’t put all of my eggs in one basket, because, like I tell my athletes, this is an extrinsic goal, something that I don’t have any control over.  I have control over my training, to a degree my mechanics, but you never know, how the weather will impact you, flat tires, crashes, etc.

I think, my training, puts me in a good place.

My intrinsic goal, is to do the best that I can, and ride as fast as I can for 100 miles.  And to have fun, and enjoy the vistas.

It’s been a very busy week!

Today Kimmie and I went up to Aspen Vista, Race Wheels with Ikons, my Rudy’s with my Racing Reds, some rest, and a PR to be had.

1:02,

7 Minutes off my trip from Tuesday with my new friend Stefanie.

Tuesday, 7.30.2013, finalizing a Big Block I met my new friend, Stefanie, up at Aspen Vista, I wanted to give it my all, I gave all that I had, it was a 1:09.  It was a great day!

When we got to the top there was someone there to welcome us.

Welcoming Committee Aspen VistaHe came right up to us, within 5 feet it was amazing.

We did intervals up at 12,000 feet, that was something I had never done before.  It was a first for Stefanie too.  She said she hadn’t done an interval since 1992, when she was prepping for the Olympic Trials in the 10,000 meter run, she used to be a long distance runner.  Now she’s an amazingly fast mountain biker.

I did 4 x 15-30 second Zone 6 intervals.

And 6 x 30 seconds ON/OFF.

Did I mention we were at 12,000 feet.

It was amazing.

I got the power, but the heart rate would not come up.

I need to get my HR into the 170’s but it’s been tough lately.

Even today, I didn’t come above 163, and my NP for the climb was 88-92% of my FTP.

So I clearly was still not a 100%.  I went into today’s ride with a -19 TSB.

Monday I set a PR on Tramway.  It was a Z4/Z5 17:23

so I knew that Aspen Vista the next day would not necessarily be my best time.

My fastest time before today on Aspen Vista, was a 1:10, I was pleased, very pleased, as tired as I was.

Saturday, 7.27.2013,  Kimmie and I went to Water Canyon and I did Leadville Intervals.

Good Times.  Painful, the last one, as my right internal oblique was tightening up.  That’s a first.

We headed to Socorro, NM and the Magdalena Mountains, last Saturday.  Upon our arrival to head into Water Canyon, we were amazed of what we were going into.  Clouds, they did not seem threatening, at the time, but it sure was beautiful!

Too Bad we can't see where we're going, or the mountains at all! Kimmie, you sure you want to do this?!? HAHA

See those clouds, that’s where we’re headed!!  Exciting!!

Zoe at Water CanyonIt was a great day in the saddle, with a total of 5 hours, and over 7k feet of climbing.

Kimmie cruised up and came back down and did about an hour of running:

The weather ended up being perfect!!  Absolutely perfect.  As the weather is about 95% of the time in New Mexico.

We try not to let too many people know the secret.

We want to keep the wide open spaces here.

The Tuesday before, 7.23.2013, I crossed one my Bucket List Rides off the list: From Home, Around the Mountain, and up to the Towers, and home through the Canyon.

Total time out there was 8.5 hours, and close to 80 miles with almost 7k in climbing.  The climb was 22 miles.

I have been training my butt off, in my free time, I am packing, and getting the Townhouse ready for my departure.

There has been a lot of work to do, finalizing  yard work, garage, cabinets,  cleaning,  refrigerator, etc.  I leave on Thursday for Leadville.

I am also leaving for Winona, MN.

Which I am pretty excited because I get to come home to Winona and ride with my new friend Stefanie, the 1st week, is that freakie deakie weird that she’s going to be in Rochester that week?

And then, ride Single Speed USA on the 17th which just happens to be in Winona this year.

Double like, because some of my friends from Texas will be there, plus another old friend who is from Winona, but now lives in CO.  Super Stoked.

All other time I have had between those 2 tasks have been spent, you guessed it, on the couch.

I must be a glutton  for punishment and 12 hour events.  For Dawn to Dusk, the week before the movers were here, and a day later, I drove everyone up to MN.

The more I do, the more I do.  HAHA!

I have enjoyed my somewhat relaxed schedule this summer.  As taxing as it has been, it’s been easier thanks to Ken’s contribution of taking the kiddos, and letting me stay here to get the house ready, and to train for Leadville, and for that,

I am forever grateful.

Thanks, Honey!!

Can’t wait to be home!
