In the Closet
Merry Christmas, Happy Winter Solctice, and all that comes along with the season. I’ve been gone. At first, I was busy trying to get my website launched, and then I was busy in Fort Myers and Sanibel Island, Florida; visiting the monkeys Great Grandma and collecting shells, and beach running. I didn’t get what I needed into my site in time, will do after this, and I had a fabulous time with the family in Florida.
I’m sitting here sipping coffee, and mentally making the list that keeps getting longer and longer and longer. Listening to the cardinals chirpping behind me, I should probably get them a little more food. It’s always a little tough taking time off. I thought about working more than I did, and I didn’t really have too much extra time. The weather wasn’t very agreeable as for cold temps and no sunbathing time. The ocean was cold, 70’s, and sharks like cold water so I opted out for any open water swims, I had thought about bringing my wet suit but the idea of swimming in the ocean without support didn’t really sound like something I wanted to get involved with.
I had some great runs while I was there. I had a nice hour on the beach. Running on the beach is totally amazing! I get so much more tired than when running on the trail or on the pavement.
It was fabulous seeing my Grandmother!
I’m so glad to be back on the bike, I missed it, and it feels like I have lost a lot of fitness. I want to do a websearch on decreases in mitochondria in the absences of sport specific training. So we know in 3 days we can lose mitochondria, but what about if you go and are running vs cycling? Are there still mitochondria that are lost? How much of a decrease in fitness is there in 5 days when running is done vs cycling?
I’ve been training in the closet, Thursday I rode the rollers and did Carmichael mountain biking tape with some power intervals and some v02/power accelerations. Yesterday I rode outdoors and did two LT loops on Jeter. Today, I want to trail run and tomorrow is the big ride. It’s tough being my own coach. In a regular taper I would not hesitate to do 3 hours, with the absence of last weekend I’m second guessing myself with wanting to do 4 hours. There’s a big difference in those two times.
