I Was Like; “Wow that Girl Looks Oddly Familiar”
But no way, would Shonny Vanlandingham be swimming at my Master’s Group.
That would just be freakishly weird that I would be swimming next to a World Champion.
As we know, all things are possible.
And I did say something like,
” You look oddly familiar to me, what’s your name?”
“Shonny”
“I thought that was you…I have to go in 5 seconds”
So even though I was freezing my ass off at home working in front of the computer and the last thing I wanted to do was go jump in a pool. I did.
And I was rewarded by swimming next to a World Champion, of my favorite sport.
So, I welcomed her to the best place on Earth, asked her not to tell anyone”
Sorry Alison, sorry, Melanie; Shonny’s my new idol.
Not sure if it’s because I swam next to her, or she’s as old as I am.
Whatever it is, I’m pretty sure I feel like the luckiest, most honored girl in the World having been able to share a workout next to someone as Inspiring as Shonny.
She told me she was 43!! Crap! I guess, that’s more motivation to get faster!
She told me, “Nice Work” on my 5 x 100’s on 1:30 with fins. I’m sorry, that came from a World Champion…me…little old me (okay I’m not that old, but I am slow) and a World Champion told me, “nice work”!
Everyone knows I don’t like to work hard in the pool. I like to coast at between 95-100 bpm for heart rate. I can swim pretty fast with that HR.
I swim with my eyes closed, and I lose count.
I went on babbling in my sometimes Zoe way about NMES, and Watermelon Beat Down, and did she know Caveman(she did), how long was she going to be in Town, where was she staying, etc.
She wants to ride sometime.
It would be my honor to be your Tour Guide. I have, and will have plenty in my life.
I’m kind of adventurous and I like to get lost, and I am really slow, so please, make it a recovery day.
And she’ll be here for 2 weeks before going to Xterra South Africa, and then, she’ll be back again.
That’s cool, that is really cool.
I am glad to finally be a real space friend, and not just a Facebook friend.
To make connection with people, in real life and space is one of the biggest joys.
I know we have a lot in common, we both have a passion for the same sport. Albeit it, I will usually come in about an hour behind.
