I Have Never Made a Mistake
In my training.
I have made plenty of mistakes in my life, with very few, if any regrets 🙂
Until last week, and I wish I could say it was a simple mistake.
I was going along in my happy little life,
transitioning from Dawn to Dusk,
into Alcatraz Swim: running here, biking there.
Monday I thought, “I should see where I am in my training”
Keep in mind, I generally check every week, where I should be.
I saw my long run should be at 2:45
2:45
That’s a long shot off of 1:00 or 70 minutes.
Holy Burrito Bat Man…
I am eternally grateful of 2 things:
1) I am testing the hypothesis of muscle memory
2) I am a coach.
Tuesday I went out for all I could 1:15-1:20 some where in there. Didn’t log it but I generally do time for time 10 minutes per mile. This saves me the headache of math. Sometimes it’s more- Sometimes it’s less, it depends on the terrain or if on the road, that’s about my easy recovery pace.
Today I went out for 2:30
This was a slightly different type of run. I took the girls to the Academy and we had bikes, tennis rackets, snacks. I ran and the girls rode for about 35-40 minutes. Then, they went to play tennis and I did a 3 leaf clover coming back every 15-20 minutes to say ‘hi’. Did some tempo-ish 400’s, some dynamic exercises near the end.
The funny part:
The part that is testing the Muscle Memory Hypothesis:
1:15-1:20 to 2:30 is a gigantic jump,
I mean huge.
Really the last 15 minutes were VERY painful.
Not any more painful than a general 10% jump that would have happened with a build last summer
Very interesting huh? I did have small breaks, water guzzles, etc. Time is Time.
I spent the last 2 days with some of the best triathlon coaches in the country. I may have learned a few things. A few things that I am very excited about.
My goal: to be in the top 10% of all coaches in the country. It always has been. I may already be there, if not, I’ll keep working and learning, and perfecting. Staying on top of all the current research, reaching for all of the practical applications.
I’m very proud of my athletes, all of them.
I’m able to use science and practical applications of life, family, work, and stress and put it together in a way that they can be successful. So that my athletes can continue to be successful year after year, whatever their goals are and whatever life stresses are brought upon them.
Anybody can coach.
Anybody can write a program.
In the real world it’s near impossible to follow a rigid program week after week, without the flexibility of being able to have a life.
There’s a lot of burn out in sport.
I’m eternally grateful for all of the opportunities that have been given to me.
I feel blessed with all that I have, and all that I know, as well, as for all of those who influence my life.
I can’t wait to spin my very tired legs out on a bike tomorrow before another long a$$ swim.
Some ideas for articles:
Compression
Too tired to think too much more, 2 hours past my bed time.
May you all have peace in your hearts during each moment of your day.
