Happy May Day

Kathy Hudson won the Gold Medal in Spain at the inaugural ITU cross triathlon.  What a rock star!  She is such an amazing woman: Strong, Smart, Fast, World Champion.

Lots of people complain about getting older..

When the entire world can be served to you on a silver platter, if you choose, how can you choose to sit idle?

Kathy, first overall in her age group: 45-49, had the fastest amateur time of 40+.  I haven’t seen the young chickens times, but I’m pretty sure she may have actually pulled off the fastest amateur time.

She wasn’t far off some of the pros times.

I hope Voler can put those World Champion Stripes on your jersey like you deserve!  The course looked pretty muddy, my favorite girl in the whole world, behind Dunlap, McQuaid, smiled a sputtered muddy smile as she crossed the finish line.

Just goes to show you: with the talent, and the proper channeling of that talent, , through coaching, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.

I wonder if Kathy ever thought she would be a World Champion at such a young and tender age?

Time to get off the couch and start dreaming.

I want to run…

I want to run…

I want to run far…

I want to run farther…

Someone has a different plan for me.

My run has been sabotaged all week: Wednesday, my 9:30 canceled so all day Monday and Tuesday I was looking forward to having the ‘day off’.  Went out to Bear Creek Parkway for some road, and some run.  Took Rey out there, some minor changes to his bike set up, and 3 laps, I went back to the car to have received a text: “be there in 10″…

oops, forgot about my 11.  Sorry buddy.  So I raced to Southlake, and there went that one.

Then, I went to the Bikes Plus to pick up some tubes for my old man…

My bike is here, what do you mean my bike is here: Scott Scale 29’r Pro.

I’ve been waiting since October.  First, it was supposed to be here in December, for Christmas, then February for my Birthday…Then, I nearly put the idea of a bike on the back burner, and replaced my wheels on my Kona.

My bike is no longer a pro.  I have been changing everything out.  I put on XX crank with XX 2 x 10.  Put on XO shifters and brake levers.  New carbon seat post, fancy pants Time titanium petals, etc.  I ordered some fancy pants Stans wheels, the ones that weigh only 1350 g.

So you know, how can I just expect to get my new bike in and not take it out for some rides?!?

So I went out Thursday and rode the front end of Murrel Park.  Loved it, felt just like the Kona.  Except that short twitchy stem and the crappy tires…which by the way, have tubes in them…did you know they still put tubes in high end bikes…I thought that was against the rules.  The tires are these awful Racing Ralph, not those, but some other one.  The side knobs are like jello, not saving you from a slide out, and the tubes in there, total instability.

Friday took it out, for Princess Day was going to do a brick, we rode, nearly the whole thing at Northshore. Then, ran out of time…and then today, well, RAIN, LIGHTENING, YUCK.  Wish I could just run from the house without risking pulmonary distress.

So the bike, Sugar Magnolia, is back at the shop, 100mm Ritchey stem, Crank Brothers handlbars, ESI grips, Maxxis tires Ardent up front, Crossmark in reverse in the rear, tubeless set up, til my wheels come in.

And my run awaits the clearing of this gawd awful thunderstorm.  As the time goes by, it looks more and more like a ride on the rollers is in order.

It looks so scary out there.  I have to work, I don’ t really want to work, I want to focus on everybody else: like Rey racing Mellow Johnny’s, a Mountain Biking ride next Saturday at Big Cedar, I better get my buddy Shadow on that one, hope he can come.  Arielle’s birthday at the Westin.  Packing, Packing, Packing.

Want to run, I want to run far, I want to run far and forget.

Still don’t know what will become of that XTERRA World Championship Slot.  With all that’s going on, it’s hard to tell.  I know Sugar Mag would do great out there!

I really, really want to run the Leadville Marathon July 2nd…any of my buds want to come up and watch the kiddos, for a million hours for me.

Sure wish this headache, my dark peripheral vision, and my metallic taste in my mouth would go away!
