Happy Labor Day: 9.6.2010: 2:52 total run time
Wow, I’ve been MIA, I’ve been mustering the strength to update my blog.
Today, Monday, Labor Day, I coached spin. I felt pretty good, so did the workout, I was actually surprised by the amount of strength that I had. But then, I was toast ALL day. Then, again, I needed that, by that I mean laying around being lazy, or as I like to say, “ride the couch”.
Yesterday was a big day. A really big day.
My total time was 2:52. My day was supposed to be 2:45 time equivilant to 16-18 miles. I was thinking about going to LB Houston, you know off road, but flat; really flat. I didn’t really want to drive, I wanted to sleep in, take it easy. So I went to North Shore. I parked at Murrel Park. I want to do laps with pits, eating, etc. Because that’s what my 50k is going to be, loops at my favorite 12 hour mountain bike course.
I ran in my Mizouno Wave Universe 3’s. I was wondering how they would work.
Walking around the house before making my decision to wear my Mizouno’s, my knee started to hurt with my Asics on so I took those off, then I was walking around with my Pearl Izumi’s on and my knee hurt, so I went Mizouno’s. So I ran 2:45 on some of the most hilly, technical terrain in my “track shoes”. It was awesome. I had no problems at all.
First hour I ran out to Twin Coves in back. Then, I came back after seeing my buddy Kim Chance and eating my vittles and restocking my water, and ran an hour on the other side. I don’t like that side as much, it’s not easy, it’s harder, it’s off balance, or camber, and just not as fun. I did lose my diamonds, my chain somehow broke, I felt something fall into my bra, and thinking it was a bug, I flicked my bra up and let them fall. Then, a few minutes later, I reached around my neck and noticed my chain was broken. Smack, so I back tracked, got down on my hands and knees and basically looked through the sand with a fine tooth comb. Not really, I was looking pretty seriously though. I found them, I was pretty stoked about that. Then went back out. So now, I’m over 2 hours into it, that’s why I ran longer, because of pits and losing my diamonds.
I refueled and headed back out to Twin Coves. Man, the last 20 minutes were really tough. It was my mind, totally my mind, overcoming the body’s urge to quit. I wanted to quit. I didn’t I played the mind game and kept going. I did it, totally completed the alloted time.
My only error was the super hard core climb up the mountain at race pace spin class I coached. If it weren’t for that I think, I would feel pretty good.
I’m sure the next few weeks is all going to be about survival with my mileage.
I was born to run. I love running, I love biking, I did have an awesome tempo ride on Saturday after I went to my friend, www.runnersusan.com and watched her turn her water into plastic with a blow torch, thanks to our ‘good neighbors’. If you want to watch the miracle of turning water into plastic, you can check it out on her blog.
She just asked me if I think she can get ready in time to run the 50k with me. I was hoping she would fill my water bottles for me and shove food in my face. It would be totally awesome to have a running buddy. She has always loved running.
I did all my fuel Paleo this time: fruit, Clif C bars. It worked great, I didn’t bonk once.
