Had a Tough Time Deciding on a Title for Today:
[polldaddy poll=7373751]
Of course, I am talking about the magic of having lived at Altitude for 2 years.
I had a great run this morning.
A crisp 65 degrees and very mystical looking.
It was flat. My foot feels pretty good, unbelievable.
We will see what comes of the day.
It must be in celebration for my 1 year anniversary of breaking it.
I ran 3.8 which included a warm up of dynamic ex’s. And then into a little Exercise Induced Tachycardia for a few moments but not as high as usual. Without my dynamic ex’s I ran at about 9:20 pace.
I ran with my big bulky New Balance on.
C’est la vie.
I ran Fartlek.
HaHa, she said Fart…lek.
Although I have not been running more about 3-4 miles one day per week. I have kept busy with ‘walking the dogs up the bluff’, dynamic ex’s, including strides, and hiking.
This weekend I hiked up to that little rock formation in the back ground.
It is called Sugar Loaf.
The 1st time I had been by there was during SSUSA, so I was off to find the trail up.
I didn’t know how long it was, or how to get there, albeit, I rode down it just a few weeks prior.
It turns out it’s about .2 mile, ranging from 6 to well over 40%grade, in more than one spot.
My foot didn’t like that too much, but I did manage at the top for some extra miles.
I didn’t have time to get to the neighborhood to scope that out this weekend. But I will next time.
It was pretty technical, and it’s fairly new terrain to me.
The rocks are hard to see, they match the color of the soil in most cases and now there are some leaves that are beginning to drop to make it even more exciting…and the moss…makes slippery.
You can see the hospital the girls were born at.
And Target 🙂
That’s the Mississippi,
And Wisconsin Bluffs,
on the other side of the River.
Here’s another view:
That’s of the North’ish.
An interesting fact about Winona,
It’s the only part of the Mississippi
that runs East to West
Not the greatest if you think the river runs North to South.
Well, it does…except in Winona.
“Just along the River Bend”.
I have had a great week of swims. It’s Thursday and I have already banked 2 x 3000 yard swims in the last 7 days. That was my small miracle the other day when I showed up to the pool with 45 minutes until the pool closes, to find out that there was a water aerobic class scheduled which gave me another 30 minutes. Thank you God!! It was awesome!! I saw an old friend, and met a new one, without the pressure of having to get my laps in in a very limited amount of time.
I have the hankering for a Triathlon. I am successfully running 40 minutes.
Last year I didn’t compete, I ran the Silver Rush 50 miler in Leadville.
Then, I broke my foot. Rrr.
My foot has been taking forever to heal. I go for runs, and it feels like it re breaks.
There’s a couple coming up, one in MN, one in WI.
I would like to do one!
But I was thinking,
I am not even sure if I remember how to set up a transition!!
Maybe I should just do “One Last Tri”.
I finally got my 3 hour ride in!! Yippee!!
27 miles and 2200′ of climbing.
I dedicated the ride to my Old Team,
to My Old Team Captain.
Who is deep in my thoughts,
in recovery.
It’s important to always,
always remember,
to move forward.
One thing is for certain:
If I lose my climbing legs, it’s not because the terrain here is lacking.
It’s a different kind of climbing, shorter, steeper…
More Power.
Not the sustained climbing I have grown accustomed to.
And the technical aspect of the trails.
There is no way, I won’t get some of that back.
It’s so technical,
I have been thinking about knee pads.
You know, cause knees are good.
Last Thursday I went on an Adventure to Red Wing.
It was a good day.
The girls had a tennis match in Lake City. Conveniently located 15 minutes from Memorial Park:
The plan was to get my 3 hour ride in, but Tennis had a different plan.
So I rode one Black Lap and One Blue Lap.
They’re basically the same.
But I wanted to check it out.
I did realize:
It was a great day,
And I got to see the monkeys play.
And kick some butt.
They did great!
Considering they were playing girls, in some cases 4 years older than them.
It’s great practice.
You want to get better?
Then, surround yourself with those whom are better than you.
