Comfort, many miles of discomfort and fun
Justin came in from Seattle to race Comfort. Comfort is my favorite course. It’s a lot of people’s favorite course, including Lance Armstrong. Lance was funny going into the race, on again off again, on again, off again. ON. I was talking to my friend Christianne about the rain. Thursday was only .75 inches, and then, boom the sky opened up and let loose. I was kinda worried about them down there will a tornado watch and the possibility of hail.
We weren’t in any hurry to get there because of the weather. We had to get out after it un-thawed and before it froze again. And as for a pre ride, with the rain it wasn’t really happening, so that put me on relaxation mode. I was happy for that. There are many miracles in life and mine came Thursday when I found out the girls swimming was canceled and I would actually have time to get ready without being stressed out. This really seemed like the best race yet. I didn’t have an over whelming amount of work, I could breath and swimming was canceled for the day which opened up my prep for Fri/Sat.
It was nice to have company on the way down there, we talked mostly about bike stuff, training, when we started racing, possible team mates, sponsorship opportunities, etc.
We went to the ranch and it seemed pretty dry. There were some water spots, all and all, it seemed dry. I felt breathless, so I did about 20 minutes maybe 30 and headed back to the truck. Charley came, they did the lower loop. I had kept my bigger tread tire on the front, my Maxxis Advantage and then put the 1.95 ignitor on. That was actually a pretty good tire set up. If there’s a next time in the at situation I will run that size Ignitor front and back. The ignitor did a better job of keeping the mud off. I was glad to have the tread pattern, it was so slippery out there, it gave me the confidence to keep me upright.
It was great hanging out with Christianne and Paul. I think, it’s been a year since I have seen Chris. I had a nice firm bed, some pillows. I got a great night sleep. As usual 5 AM capp and 4 eggs. This time I wanted to do what I do every day. Just eat fruit. It went great, I didn’t have my usual ‘hydration’ problems. It was nice. Race report laterZ
