Conversations from a Road Race
This season has become, yet another change in focus. Last year I did no triathlons because my foot was broken. The year before that I did no triathlons because well, I was training for a 50 mile run. This year, (and last) all about triathlon. Which is good, actually because I have noticed that there is not 1, NOT 1 Mountain Bike Race on the USA Cycling website for the state of MN. Did I mention, not 1! Anyway that's not today's story. So there's this triathlon here in Winona, called Trinona, I've known about it

That Moment When I Knew that Breaking My Foot Was Good
At some point; most of the time when something bad happens, we have to turn our thoughts into, 'there has to be something good about this.' Breaking my foot a year ago last September was one of those times, and re-injuring it, and re-injuring it and re-injuring it. I knew it was good, and just that the good hadn't showed up yet in my life. I just had to trust. And last week, minus the potty break fiasco I ran 5 miles with 8:30 minute miles. That's the fastest run in my adult life,
Overcoming Adversity
We all have adversity that comes to us in our lives. How do we overcome it? I'm sure it's different for everyone. It can happen in a race, on a training ride, or on your morning commute. How we deal with adversity will generally define our success. Do I give in? Do I quit? Do I become a victim to it? Do I meet it head on? Do I relax into the idea of it, work with it and over come it? Or do I dig deep and use it as a fuel to be
I Have Been Asked Multiple Times:
How are you staying sane this winter? The answer is plain and simple: Training Indoors with my Power Tap. It has been a long winter, and the coldest on record in 38 years, maybe more now. Why is training with power my knight and shining armor? I am able to concentrate on specific energy systems, I know that I am training exactly that which I want to train, and it really makes the time go by fast. I know it helps that I am a coach and I know exactly how to write, or "choreograph" a workout to
When I Screw Up
I like to do it very well. So well, it takes me a week to talk about it. So last Tuesday I decided to really do it right. The Snowshoe to Tears workout I am toying with the idea of hosting an off road triathlon here in Winona. Great place for one, been thinking about routes. I wanted to know what the distance was at Holzinger up the Quarry and Down the Cistern. Started off in a great mood, going 'fast' in about 6 inches of fresh snow. I have my XX2i Sunglasses on, I'm smiling, enjoying
2014 The Year of the Eagle
It's not everyday you get to see a bald eagle. Let alone 4, in your neighborhood, sitting in a tree. As we were getting ready to turn a new year I proclaimed 2014 as the year of the Eagle. Zuni Fetish: Eagle = creator, teacher, loyalty, great integrity, spiritual connection to the great divine. Eagle, I fly with you! I made a commitment to myself and to Zoefitness to soar above and beyond, to not fall weakness to those around me who try to bring me down. The eagle is much more to me than just
Every Great Adventure Begins Like This:
With My Great Adventure Glasses. Nothing says it better than the glasses I won last summer at the Terra Firma Racing San Juan Hut to Hut Race. When the glasses come out, that's when you know it's going to be good, real good. It says one thing: ROAD TRIP!! This time down to Dallas for the Frozen Endurance Series, DORBA race, on my old home course, at Northshore Trail. Those are some nice trails, and with the weather forecast at 68 degrees, it's going to be heaven. Wednesday night the cough came. This didn't
PHAT Biking and What I Have Learned About the Sport
First off, I want to mention, I have resigned calling my PHAT bike a Fat Bike. I used to call it my Fat Bike, but the more I rode it, the more I learned about the sport, and the more fun I had, I just had to change the name to PHAT bike; as in, Pretty Hot and Tempting. I have taken the bike out a few times since I purchased it. This is my very first day on it. See how I am really happy and there are leaves on the
